Dhammachakra Mudra (Preaching of the First Sermon)

Dhammachakara Mudra

The left palm is turned inward (towards the body), the right outward, and the circles formed by the thumbs and index fingers of each hand touch one another.  “Dhammachkara” means “dhamma wheel,” and this mudra recalls the Buddha’s First Sermon to the five disciples of the Buddha at Deer Park.  The sermon is sometimes referred as the turning of the dhamma wheel (Dhammackkapavattanna Sutta).

First Sermon at Deer Park

This is the third mudra in a series of ten mudras. Bhumisparsha Mudra is the next mudra in the coming post.  Do keep a look out for it.
